Dominican Republic is one of the few countries in the region that has nine distinct ecological zones . This natural diversity plays an important role because it is the setting par excellence for the practice of exciting and extraordinary tourism and ecotourism adventure.
In the Caribbean, Dominican Republic has the highest and lowest points relative to sea level. The Pico Duarte rises to 3.187 meters in the Cordillera Central; while Lake Enriquillo is 42 meters below sea level, which greatly influences the high salinity of the same. Both elevations and plains are a variety of areas where nature is expressed in different and extreme forms, such as ranging from lush rain forests to arid deserts.
Each area offers the possibility to practice many adventure and ecotourism activities that vibrate the senses of any person. When you decide to come to our country for a vacation and ecotourism, be sure to visit destinations in mountaineering, horseback riding, from river rafting, trekking or hiking, such as Jarabacoa and Constanza ; or destinations of pristine beaches and geological depressions, lagoons, dunes and desert areas, such as Pedernales, Bahoruco, Bani, Azua and Barahona ; or diving destinations, windsurfing and kiteboarding, jeep safaris, waterfalls and humpback whales, such as the northwest coast, Puerto Plata, Cabarete and Samaná.
Nature has poured generous and bountiful in this half of the island, where the eyes of visitors stop not enjoy breathtaking scenery, like national parks, places where you can enjoy nature at its finest. These are varied, there are from mountains with pine forests, including the highest mountain in the Caribbean to truly pristine beaches like Bahía de las Águilas in Pedernales, in the southwest of the country.
